Trend in the breakdown of Non-Medical FTEs by top level professional category
The chart below shows the trend in non-medical full time equivalent staff across all NHS providers in England. It can be used to understand the trend and high level breakdown of staff numbers across the NHS in full or at a particular NHS body. The scope of the data in the chart is all staff who are not medically qualified or in training for a medical qualification (i.e. it does not include doctors, consultants etc. but includes all other NHS employees such as nursing, AHP, administrative and more).
This analysis is a high level breakdown across four categories, Professionally qualified clinical staff, Support to clinical staff, NHS infrastructure support and Others. Each of these categories are broken down further in the other analyses in this set. You can also interact with the chart by hovering over any data point to see the Tooltip which holds provide specific information on each data point.
As with all our charts the source data for this chart is NHS Digital’s monthly Workforce Statistics publication available here. Explanations of each of the published measures used in the chart are available via the link. Users should familiarise themselves with this background when interpreting the charts.
